Taking the road less travelled

He has broken away from the common games that people play. More than ten years into the Government Service and he’s got more than one ambition in mind. Originality does matter to him and this, I gathered when he stresses on spelling his surname right, says Jimomi is the original form and not Zhimomi. This fine gentleman comes across as a really soft hearted person whose profession as a veterinary doctor suits him perfectly.

Dr Inato Jimomi recalls the previous years of his life as a constant struggle and persists that he did his studies with so much hardship but is all praises to God for helping him to pursue it. Son of a Naga Freedom Fighter who succumbed to injuries solely fighting for the Naga cause in the late sixties, he holds the memory of his father as a hero who sacrificed so much and never did intend to even think about pursuing compensation from the government while many others surrendered and got their share of amendments. Rather, after he got married, he, along with his wife, Kakheli set up “Hoshivi Jimomi Trustee” which is two years old now in order to help the poor particularly the rural farmers, which he says is to keep his father’s Prestige and Name alive. For those of you who didn’t know, it was a complete result of sheer hard work and dedication. The couple is a new trend setter whose vision is set on larger scheme of things. It would be of interest to many that they have already adopted four villages and another four is very likely to be added by March this year. What they basically aim to do here, is to modernize Naga Husbandry. To start with, they provide a pig for every selected applicant (selected on the basis of loyalty, interest, sincerity, climatic conditions of the place where the person lives in) apart from giving free medicines, vaccinations and impart the basic health care in animals. There is also this insurance policy in case the animal dies and ‘the Best Farmer Award’ is certainly a driving force. This is where the couple creates opportunities for many a rural poor. They have also conducted trainings for the beneficiaries of the farmers and the term for rearing animals is 4 years. From there on, they study the productivity of the project and take another step forward. They so contently say the response has been very good to this initiative and also express their desire to expand it to more villages other than confining to the Sumi Tribe. On the other hand, they have also set up a Prayer House called ‘Global Watch Prayer Ministry’ at Sematilla in Dimapur which has been running for two years now. They explain that it was set up with an interdenominational approach to give counselling to drug addicts, drunkards as well as those indulged in immoral practices and other evil activities. It’s open to anyone who is seeking prayer and counselling. The main motive however, is to help people to change the society. It’s a matter of pride that an overwhelming number of more than 2000 people have felt the touch of this Ministry since its inception.Another venture that they have undertaken is the ‘Bright Career Academy Girls Hostel’ in Dimapur. This wasn’t for business purpose but the reason behind it is primarily because they have seen the lives of Naga students studying outside in the cities and felt the need to bring a change somewhere. There were only a handful of 12 when it first started in 2005 he says, but the hostel now accommodates about 40 college girls and they wish to impart them with moral character and enable them to strive for excellence in order to produce some best women in the society. It may be noted that his wife, Kakheli was earlier a Lecturer at Discipleship Bible Seminary but left it to pursue greater interest in bringing a change in the society. Another impressive endeavour is the Alternative Schooling for Orphans, Street Children and Urban Deprived they have been running with the main objective to mainstream them in the school. Whereas Dr. Inato is a Government Servant at par with the rarest and the best in the field, he thrives to give his best in whatever he does and considers the service to government also a service to God. He does admit there are many ups and downs in the government service and adds there are many norms you follow here. Nevertheless, he enjoys being able to give quality need to the public and expresses he has a satisfactory work nature in the Dimapur Municipal Council where he serves as a Veterinary Assistant Surgeon.  However, the real perk that this ardent believer in bringing about social change is not so much the fact that he’s an outstanding government servant but that he extends this vision of transforming the society from his own little world through three principles in life which he calls ‘Moral’, ‘Economic’, and ‘Educational and Cultural Transformations’. These ideologies have certainly come alive in the various commendable projects that he has undertaken (and are flourishing) with a far sighted vision. For somebody who recalls his early education a great struggle and who has had it rough as a student but went on to graduate from Pune through total dedication and hard work, it is also a matter of fulfilment that he has served in the Veterinary Department from various places for a good many years. He also went on to pursue his masters in Veterinary Science from All India Institute Public Health, Kolkatta. His tale has a deep rooting of the place he was brought up and you just can’t ignore someone who’s on the run to bring a Social Transformation. And behind his every laudable task, there’s also a woman who is equally thriving for a better society.
