When Synergy Group Enterprise was formally launched on December 2, 2008, Chief Minister of Nagaland had called upon professionals to merge together and form a consortium to take various challenges while he termed our state as a ‘land of opportunities’.
True to the prospects underlining the business world, three young professionals from Kohima had come to venture together although they are all from different fields and expertise. Over a span of one year, the trio - Kevitsu Doze, Kevilezo Kense and Kevinourhe Kire have given a ray of hope to enterprisers at heart that one can excel and gain respect even without holding a Government Job.
But it’s also true that they faced their share of criticisms when they initially started. Even so, they were optimistic that “if we work together we can achieve something beyond what we can reach”.
Synergised together also with an effort to bring in professionalism, “creative cooperation” which defines the word “synergise” has paid off even as they continue to endeavour together with the various skills they are endowed with.
Elders have suggested that they take up at least a petty government job while they pursue their interest but they have consistently expressed “we feel that whatever we are doing, we should give our heart into it”.
Onto the much hyped unemployment problem of our youth in the State and one of them pointed out - “I don’t see any unemployment problem. There is so much scope for the youth.”
“It is not the job but the individual,” he supplements and also emphasised that “if you are ready to work, there is always a job”.
With regard to the activities of the Group, it initially began with managing events, destinations, artistes, market researching, exhibiting etc but in order to support these, they have also started a Production House to deliver services more efficiently.
Mostly, they are into managing weddings although not completely even as one of them opined that “getting into the market in Nagaland is purely different”. He went on to say that while management of events has been making its presence felt, Nagas are also ‘so accustomed to tradition’ that complete management is still a little alien. So what they basically do is cater to productions like setting up stages or, in the case of conferences, provide sets like chairs, tents, sound systems, tent house, lights etc. With people getting busier and busier nowadays, the Naga Society is also willing to take in services as such instead of looking into the whole affair themselves.
So far, they have involved themselves with about 30-40 weddings in the recent past besides fully managing 3-4 major events which include Diamond Jubilee Celebration of the Guwahati High Court, Kohima Bench, and Nagaland Civil Service Association Silver Jubilee
In their one year journey, they have also worked with the Fashion Show held during the 2008 Hornbill Festival, Global Open University Fashion Show, Sükrenyi Festival besides numerous parties, departmental dinners and programmes.
Proud to have worked hard and opened ‘Season’s Café’ which has become a favourite meeting place for many, for the most part, they are glad to involve youth in their projects and by now a good number of them have also found employment both in the form of part time and full time.
“Kids’ Carnival”, first of its kind in the state and also one of their most recent and commendable initiatives, has brought in a lot of positive responses and even as they delight in making homes and families happy about this space given for children, they expressed that “hopefully with the support from the Government, we can make it an annual event”.
Otherwise, counting job satisfaction as an essential in one’s career, the trio is content with what they do and is also happy to see many new enterprising ventures coming up in the past few years. One of them has said that “this is a positive trend taking shape” while adding that “I think our Naga youth are ready to struggle and work towards success”. But of course, pursuing entrepreneurship as a passion, he felt that networking together is of prime importance in the business world. While on the other hand, one of them hoped that the professional Nagas working outside would also come and uplift our Naga Society.”
They are our very own promising youth and trend setters as well, who insist they are still learning and synergising together.
