They recently helped manage the ‘Green Kitchen’ at the International Trade Fair, New Delhi, an undertaking of the Women Development Department of Nagaland that won the Gold Medal for its outstanding service.
They were just a small group of about 20 Ex-Delhi students when they first started off in the year 2003 as a small cricket team under the name 'Zingers' for the love of sports among a closely associated bunch of friends. Eventually the idea of forming a club came over which crystallized into forming the ' Zingers Club' in the same year with the motto ' Faith & Honour '.
Since then there was this transition from not just playing cricket but also organising the very popular ' Zingers Cricket Trophy ' in New Delhi which has become an annual affair and has come to be popularly known among the Naga Students as well as the sport-lovers circle in the Capital. Their horizons widened with the success that came along with the Cricket Team and they went on to launch T-shirts based on ethnic Naga themes. The Club took up the objectives to instil a sense of cultural identity, identify talent and potential and nurture them to act as a channel in promoting social and environmental awareness and to organise and participate in seminars based on social issues. Beginning their journey from a small circle and from a simple objective of preserving the true spirit of sportsmanship (for the love of cricket in particular), 'Zingers Club' has come quite a long way.In celebration of its 5th anniversary this year, the Zingers Club is marking the occasion at the Hornbill Festival by setting up a stall at the Bamboo Pavilion in order to promote its products at the weeklong National Festival. Interacting with one of the members of the club, it came to light that the objective behind taking this project is to make people realize the richness and diversity of our Naga cultural heritage, to provide a platform for those who are less fortunate in getting a chance to promote their works and to be an instrument in helping the needy and those who are less fortunate in our society. In regard with one of its objectives the Club has also given the opportunity to promote the products of the Sisterhood Network that works towards helping the neglected women and girls with the view to enhance the life and dignity of women in the Zingers Stall. Alongside, they are promoting the products of Nokchala Aier, which are all hand-woven or hand-made. It is noteworthy that a part from all the proceeds generated from the sale of the Zingers' products this year will go for charity to ' Noah's Arch ' , an orphanage in Dimapur. The members of the Zingers Club mostly include the Nagas of Nagaland, the majority of them being a part of Delhi once. They are young and truly youthful. What's more - they are Environment Conscious. They are strong advocates of the use of Recycled Paper bags. They are also full of dreams and creativity- the Zingers' Logo being a living proof. It was designed by their very own artists. The T-shirts as well are a product of their own. Here's an upcoming Club which is, of course, no more an alien name to Nagaland or New Delhi or even elsewhere for that matter. 'Zingers Club' will definitely go a long way from here. If the love of sports could eventually create waves and bring social causes even closer to our doors, also stand to promote our rich Naga culture, then I see Hope in the young endeavours of the Zingers. Faith and honour, it will definitely fight for.
